5/30/76 TOKYO: Racers steer their way to the starting line for Japan's first "tricycle" speed race here 5/30.
The newly-made human powered vehicle, weighing approximately 55 pounds with a length of about 7 1/2 feet, will be sent to the U.S. for demonstrations during the bicentennial celebrations.
The tricycle was developed by a group of students in the science and engineering department at Nippon University and was designed by Honda Giken, an auto manufacturer.
There are already 20 such racing teams in Japan and they plan to recommend the inclusion of the sport in future Olympic games.
